Could be worse . . . I could be Sting. ~ Ozzy |
So involved is Ozzy’s trivia that I had to split the entries, which include with this one– Ozzy Trivia Part II Rumors and Rumblings…– the following:
Ozzy Trivia Part I Accolades/Awards/Achievements
Ozzy Trivia Part III Appearances, Associations, and Inclinations
Ozzy Trivia Volume IV Actions and Arrests
Rumors and Rumblings…
“Suicide Solution” considered by Ozzy to be a tribute to the late Bon Scott of AC/DC who died in 1980 of alcohol-related complications.
Bob Daisley, however, said he wrote the song to speak to Ozzy’s alcohol and drug abuse.
“Suicide Solution” was blamed for Sabbath fan John McCollum committing suicide.
Paranoid was the music of choice for a nurse who committed suicide listening to the album.
The cover of No Rest for the Wicked (1988) was interpreted as the portrayal of Ozzy and kids worshipping at a Satanic shrine.
The cover of Speak of the Devil (1982)—with an image of Ozzy, fangs, and blood (a.k.a. raspberry jam) was censored in some stores by way of a warning sticker slapped over top the “bloody fangs”—but the minute Ozzy threatened to have those stores’ albums yanked from the bins, the stickers were gone.
McCollum’s parents sued Ozzy—but the suit was cleared.
Censorious individuals and groups have put the power of influencing teens into the Prince of Darkness’ hands. His performances, actions, and music have been accused of being everything from a bad influence to a devil worshiper, what with the horn symbols.
But as righteous interpretations are wont to do, the objectors misread Ozzy’s symbols: he actually flashed/ flashes the peace sign.
That doesn’t stop them from reading what they will: one Christian followed Ozzy’s tour bus after a concert for 300 miles…to “save him from damnation”.
Salt Lake City [Mormons] have permanently banned Ozzy from Utah’s capital city.
Ozzy once suggested making up a tee shirt with the saying, “If your day is totally —ed up, blame Ozzy Osbourne.”
