Gaga over Dada but wish they’d be more Incubus like
Gaga over Dada by Mike Liebner
I have rather “eclectic taste” in music. It’s always been that way.
For some reason I am usually drawn to music that is not uber popular.
Often times that can be frustrating because many of the albums and cd’s I have bought are by 1 cd or 2 cd wonders (they don’t qualify even as 1 hit wonders).

The other day I was thinking to my self how I wished that the excellent band Dada would be more like Incubus.
Not so much in the style of music, but rather in the way they marketed themselves.
You see Dada only has a few albums and have been dying at the mercy of the record labels that misunderstand them and let them die by lack of promotion.
Incubus on the other hand has always embraced their fan base and in my opinion has made records for them - not the record label execs. In fact what I love about Incubus is that they have not been afraid to release a lot of cd’s and videos. They have even released “official bootlegs” from several of their live shows in CD and video forms(proceeds go to charity).
This has surely helped quench the thirst of the Incubus fans who would eat up almost anything the band puts out. I know I would.
But that is what is so frustrating about Dada. They are so great yet they hardly have any product. I’d buy anything they put out. Recently they finally released an “official bootleg’. I bet they were suprised how many they sold. Sure - it may not have had any Billboard Hot 100 hits, but I bet the profits were there none the less.
If I could give this advice to Dada and any other bands that have passionate loyal fans it would be this - give them what they want - staisfy their instaiable thirst for more - give them live cd’s - videos - demo cd releases - alternate versions - mix cd’s - interviews - anything that would please us fans who want more!
Not only could this sustain the careers of these ‘fringe” bands by putting more money in their pockets, but it may also show the ahole label execs that there is some commercial potential.
That’s exactly what Frank Zappa did. He may not have had many top ten hits but his fans (like me) devoured all of his stuff and still wanted more!
I want more Dada music! Give us some more please!
